Puppy Experts

Our founder, Stephanie Bennett, created Houston’s first all-encompassing puppy programs in 2008, with the help of her mentor, Dr. Ian Dunbar. It is our mission to educate new puppy owners and veterinarians on the importance of early puppy training and socialization. Early socialization for puppies should be considered a “behavior vaccine” since positively exposing them to a wide variety of people, animals, and environments is vital for developing a well-adjusted and confident adult dog. Puppyhood affords the best opportunity to influence a dog’s behavior. Deficiencies in early development can have adverse effects on a dog’s behavior and disposition later in life. The clock is ticking and time is of the essence.

When should you begin socializing and training your puppy?

“The primary and most important time for puppy socialization is the first three months of life. During this time puppies should be exposed to as many new people, animals, stimuli and environments as can be achieved safely and without causing over-stimulation manifested as excessive fear, withdrawal or avoidance behavior. For this reason, the American Veterinary Society of Animal Behavior believes that it should be the standard of care for puppies to receive such socialization before they are fully vaccinated.”
